Steven Black has been a team member at Corbin Advisors since 2022. Devin Davis, Head of Marketing and Communications, sat down with Steven to learn more about his experience at Corbin and what continues to inspire him.

Can you walk me through your roles and responsibilities?​

I spend the majority of my day-to-day partnering with our information technology (IT) and Operations team members, handling everything from identifying process efficiencies, to proactively mitigating risk, to enabling seamless team member performance. As the lead for our IT infrastructure, I partner with everyone across the firm, including business practice and functional leaders, our senior leadership team, and distribution partners. My end goal is focused on process reengineering, identifying ways to better optimize the use of existing technology, and helping the firm solve critical matters to enable our continued growth.

What do you love most about the work you do at Corbin Advisors?

Since joining Corbin, I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with many different people. The culture here is truly unique — it’s very special. It can be challenging to find an organization where the people are both super focused AND easy to collaborate with – we have that here. Regardless of job level, everyone is authentic. In addition, no day is exactly the same at Corbin, and I really appreciate that diversity.

In 2023, you were recognized with the Corbin Impact Award for consistently delivering above expectations. What inspires you?

Having worked for other organizations prior to joining Corbin, the people here make the difference. People are the biggest differentiator that continue to inspire me.

What's the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting their career or looking at Corbin Advisors for their first career opportunity?

What you go to school for gives you a decent foundation. However, having the opportunity to gain experience through various responsibilities will give someone new in their career the chance to learn firsthand what different roles entail – and what they like and don’t. For those starting at Corbin, I would encourage shadowing as many people as possible. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, be a “hand raiser,” and always look for opportunities to learn something new.
