A Brave New World: Industrial Investors Resigned to Low Growth and Things Are Looking up (or Are They?)
Ahead of industrial earnings, our quarterly survey reveals diehard industrial investors are more positive as the "new normal" sets in. Indeed, expectations have stabilized as the majority forecast results to be in-line with consensus. Our research shows the lion's share of investors are self-described neutral to bullish while fewer believe we are in an industrial recession; significant shifts in sentiment from recent sequential surveys.
Still, growth remains elusive with most calling for 2% to flat organic growth and views on industrial order rates have turned decidedly more pessimistic for the balance of the year.
While calls on sectors remain largely intact, we saw two major shifts in sentiment - both on the bullish and bearish sides - as investors' holding pattern of last quarter was replaced by more conviction to buy or sell.
